Sound of a beam impacting on a
carbon-carbon jaw |
A microphone was placed close upstream of
the LHC collimator. Downstream of the collimator was the beam dump. The jaw
of the collimator was moved into the path of the extracted LHC-type SPS
beam. Once extracted, the full beam intensity was put onto one collimator
jaw with transverse impact parameters between 1 mm and 5 mm. Such a test of
robustness against shock beam impact was performed. |
